Eggs and ketchup

If you’re reading this then that means the last trick or treater has been treated, the last turkey leg has been sucked off the bone, the last gift shredded and discarded on the living room floor, the last bottle of the year has been popped and it is officially 2018!!! It also means I achieved the simplistic yet reasonable goal I have set for myself at the beginning of 2017. I dedicated to making a blog post for every quarter of 2017 and this officially marks the completion of that goal, as this is my last installment for 2017!! But don’t celebrate yet! I have made a new New years resolution to continue blogging in 2018, for every month of the year! That’s right! I am about to pollute your eye-holes for 12 months with 12  ridiculous post that are sure to make you say “wtf”.

Lets reflect on 2017 for a moment. It was a productive year for me, filled with a lot of changes and turbulence in my personal life. 2017 was the year in which I laid the foundation of many things I want to build upon. The centerpiece being my comic creating. Some time ago I created a self publishing label named Headshrinkers Press as a vehicle to get my comics into the eyes, hands and hearts of readers. It grew pretty quickly and we attracted a lot of attention. But I found myself doing more publishing work for other creators and very little, if any of my own. That’s when I knew I needed to revisit what i originally set out to do; CREATE MY OWN COMICS! I found myself at a crossroad. I could either put all my resources and energy into being a publisher or a writer/creator. I learned very quickly that it is incredibly hard, almost impossible, to do both successfully. There are a lot of small label publishers appearing as fast as they disappear and there are also some thriving because they are doing what they set out to do. It is important to know what you want to do in the wonderful world of comics and have a plan to execute it, as with any endeavor. It is very easy to be swayed off course and your attention divided to the four winds with the modern DIY landscape of comics. This is why teamwork is almost crucial in creating a professional production. Plan, focus, execute. This realization was the reason I downsized my small press and scaled it back to me focusing and creating my own books. Me and my partner Landon Faulkner both had the same goal in mind when we began creating and publishing comics publicly, and we both made the decision to revisit that goal and continue pursuing that dream while still using Headshrinkers Press as a way to publish. It was this decision that allowed me the freedom to get back to my books. I spent 2017 working on three amazing titles (Landslide, Packhounds and Ratchet City), and will spend 2018 launching, promoting, kickstarting and publishing those titles.

Which brings me to an important announcement for the Headshrinkers Press label. In an effort to get in front of a wider audience and stay true to ourselves as writer/creators, we have officially imprinted with Crazy Monkey Ink!! I have worked closely with founder Gabriel ‘Ol Raz’ Ramirez for several years now and have watched this label grow by leaps and bounds. Gabe is truly in touch with his skill set as a producer/publisher and this label is on the rise because of it. I truly believe this merger will only result in positive synergy for everyone. Crazy Monkey Ink and Headshrinkers Press are meant for each other, like scrambled eggs and ketchup.

Another exciting announcement for Headshrinkers Press is that we currently have two of our titles nominated for an award!!! Landon Faulkner’s “RIGHT ON TIME” and my title “LANDSLIDE Issue 1 (Cursed Ground)” are both finalist for the 2017 S.P.A.C.E. Awards!! This is truly exciting for us as a small press and is the fuel that keeps us creating more great stories. Last year LANDSLIDE Roots and Glen Reaper were also nominated, so make sure to check all of these award nominated titles!!! Also make sure to check out the S.P.A.C.E. (Small Press And Creator Expo) in Columbus Ohio. This is probably one of the greatest conventions I have ever attended that truly cater to the small independent creator.

As always, thanks for reading. If you enjoy my works, even in the slightest, I would love to hear from you. You know, just so I know someone is actually reading this stuff. You can write to me via email (, comment on this blog, or Facebook stalk me. Until my next ramble; Comic on!

For those about to comic…

Comics have gotten me through some pretty tough times. Maybe it’s the fantastic, thought provoking stories that allows me to liberate my head from this world, or to paint my own multiverse with. I am very good at drifting away into my cranial hideaway and creating. Why comics though? For me It is one of THEE best forms of storytelling, teetering perfectly between literature and art. Not only that, but it also gives multiple creators the chance to get involved in a story through collaborating, which may very well be my favorite aspect to creating. There is something great about multiple minds coming together in unison to create a thing. I feel its then that it truly comes alive, pulsating with a little piece of all of them. This is one of the reasons I don’t think I will ever look at comics as my “job”, because comics will always be my “passion”. That and it doesn’t pay enough. When writing, creating or producing, I always approach comics as an escape for someone else as well. I’m not looking to push an agenda or a belief system on anyone. I am looking to simply provoke thought and to cultivate a “What if” in the minds of my readers. Maybe I can trigger a spark of weirdness and above all else tell great stories that have nothing to do with us.

Being a small independent comic writer and creator makes it hard for me to get my stories out in front of you, the reader. I don’t have a marketing team or pressing crowds awaiting my next morsel of goodness to drop from my crumby fingers into your gasping mouths. So sometimes I have to sacrifice any aspirations of turning a profit and make this all about that dreaded word “exposure”. So what does that mean for you? Quite a bit actually, because I am about to drip drop semi-precious links of blessings into your eye holes!

What’s the saying “the best comes to those who wait”? I feel maybe some simulance of that may be true with the PACKHOUNDS comics. It’s taken a lot of drafting, writing, designing, sketching, drinking and cussing to get PACKHOUNDS to come to fruition. This is tale of mankind losing its hold on the earth as animals begin to rise up against them. But humans have a natural guardian that has lived alongside of us and become our best friend; The Dog. They too have began to spontaneously evolve but still show a bond with us and have taken up as our protectors against the onslaught of the wild. Will we return the favor when the battle rages or will we treat them as mere meat shields?

At the time of drafting this Blog, me and Daniel Sguiglia are 9 pages away from having the pencils and inks completed for PACKHOUNDS issue one. then off to Damian Peñalba for coloring and then over to Micah Myers for the Letters and right on track for a 2018 release. This issue will contain two chapters which bleed together perfectly. Want to start reading now? leads you directly to the webcomic site. We update every Wednesday morning.

LANDSLIDE is another active webcomic I have going and it updates every Thursday and Sunday. LANDSLIDE is an earthy title I have been organically growing for a couple years now about dark magic and green monsters. You can reap its harvest at

I have all 3 of the LANDSLIDE Roots stories over there and I am currently releasing the pages to LANDSLIDE issue one “Cursed Ground” as we speak. This is a fantasy/horror story about an earth elemental who keeps attacking a dig site at the initial building of the Panama Canal, set in the late 1800’s. With LANDSLIDE I try to keep a very classic, antique, monstrous feel to it. AC RIllo, Bolaji Olaloye Michael Neno and Micah Meyers have done an earth shattering job on the first four stories (3 Landslide Roots mini series and Landslide Cursed Ground), and now I give a new set of artist the reigns to this earth devil. Maxim Mel is in his natural environment when it comes to keeping this series true to its fundamentals and that’s exactly why I brought him on. His style fairly balances out my heavy fantasy writing with a perfect weight of horror and intrigue. Maxim is born and bred in Novobrosik Russia. He has a cat named Lutzia, craves shrimp, hates salted foods, loves to chug Wychwood beer and Favors late night dips in the nearby lake during those hot, Russian winter months. LANDSLIDE issue 2 is currently in production will also be available in print, digital and webcomic release updates.

For me, Crazy Monkey Ink was one of the publishers that set the high bar for amazing underground and Independent comics. So when Gabriel “Ol Raz” Ramirez, owner/founder of the label let me write the Deathsquad Zero Mini series, I dove in head first. What resulted was 3 fantastic issues that are currently available at: We have been in talks for further issues and I already have an idea storm brewing in the ‘ol noggin, so stay tuned for more from me, Crazy Monkey Ink and this barrel blazing series.

I could go on and on with other projects I am working on or contemplating. I am very driven. Maybe to the point of obsession with creating comics and bringing stories out of my head into the realm of reality. When I think of where I was at just 5 years ago still hesitating to embark on my first book, I am so glad I ignored that right brain logic and did it anyway! I know there are others out there considering creating a story that has been stomping and snorting to get out of their head like a Rhino in a comic shop. I know you are considering the cost and time and if you will be reimbursed for it. You won’t. At least not for awhile anyway or in the monetary sense. I’m still not there nor even close to it probably. But nothing compares to the feeling of creating something potentially great. You have to look at it as something you’re doing not for profit, not doing for others, but solely for yourself and it will be then that you create something grand. It is an investment in your imagination. There will be very few times in your life that you feel the way you do when you physically hold your first printed book. Something that was one day just a spark in your mind will become a fire. Take a first step towards creation, your inner child will thank you.

For those about to comic, we salute you.

Summer 2017

Not sure about the swath of earth you inhabit, but It has been one beautiful summer under my skies. It is these warm breezy days that urge me out of my dark den of writing and into the sunshine (insert hissing here). Sports, pools, parks and smoking grills dominate these lazy days of June and July, well into September, but that does not stop my writing. Actually being out in nature only fuels the writing machine that I have become. LOTS of amazing things on the horizon!

Gabriel ‘OL RAZ‘ Ramirez, owner of the brilliantly independent label “CRAZY MONKEY INK” has opened his Occipital Cortex for me rummage around in. What resulted is the 3 part mini series “DEATHSQUAD ZERO“. Thank you, Gabe! Your concepts and characters were literally a blast to write. His creations, my writings and artistic contributions with names like Gaspare Orrico, Mervin Gadaingan and Mike Montalvo, make each page worthy of being ripped from its spine and splattered on your living room wall.

In short; Deathsquad Zero is about a group of shifty mercenaries with Zero losses. They are the go to guys, when the go to guys go rogue. Mr Lee, Mr. Williams and Mr. Roper make up this unethical crew of bad breath, bullet flinging, madmen.

Crazy Monkey Ink is also the wheel-man to my new dark action series RATCHET CITY‘. Ratchet City is a series about a dying city, a dark heart, Innocence lost and justice, bloody justice. I am on the verge of releasing this through publisher Crazy Monkey Ink and through the Ratchet City website;

If that’s not enough to keep me chewing the cud, I am also knee deep in LANDSLIDE issue 2. I switched it up a little on this story and brought in ax-man Maxim Mel to hack and splat his pencils and inks across its pages. I have to tell you, i’m not regretting this decision one bit. The Russian born, one man band is bringing out the real horror in this series, while still maintaining tradition with the previous Landslide stories. This action packed issue follows Ferdinand and his angry mob as they pursue the Landslide monster through the Isthmus of Panama with torches, hounds and a belly full of rage. All the while the wounded Cecil fights for his very life while watched over by his loyal Earth Golem. If you would like to keep updated on this series via Newsletter, shoot me an email to and I will put you on the mailer.

My convention touring and book signings have taken to pale ales and hammocks for July and August, but will return for one last Con of the year at Tri-Con in Evansville Indiana in September ( I plan to add a couple in store signings as well before the end of the year, but don’t have solid dates as of yet. Stay tuned to this blog or hit me up via social media for books, schwag, appearance dates, or whatever else I may pull out of the inter-dimensional fabric of the universe .

A Landslide cometh

And behind him out of the darkness comes the earth itself to swallow me whole”

The Landslide series is a fun piece I have been creating for several years now. To see something that was once merely a vision finally materialize, is an incredible feeling. This story has become a catalyst for my writing because I can tell a myriad of different tales using the Landslide universe as the ever looming background. The setting of this series is one of myth, witchcraft, legends and lore. In reading this you will soon find that I love to intertwine lacing of history and culture into the landslide series, saturating the very core of these tomes with it.

During the beginning of 2016 I wrapped up the 3 part mini series (Landslide Roots) that preludes issue one. Landslide Roots is released as a 3 part mini series in 3 issues of Headshrinkers Press presents and also combined into its own book, which include additional fan art and concept art not originally released. These Roots stories explore past encounters of Landslide throughout antiquity and gradually give a lead into issue 1. I had originally planned on releasing issue one by end of 2016, but the release date has been pushed back to March of 2017. I will be attending SPACE con in Columbus March 25th & 26th for the Landslide official book release. If you are in the area come pick up a signed copy as well as some dank Landslide swag. In the meantime we plan on releasing the 3rd installment of Landslide Roots, via free to read web comic on the Headshrinkers website starting January and immediately launching the Landslide Kickstarter in February. Busy first half of the year already!!

Check out my published works here on my website and keep up with other projects I am currently chipping away on, ciao!
